The Commercial Finance team in the Harlequin department are looking for a Junior Commercial Analyst to join the team. The successful candidate will be assisting the team in the budgeting and forecasting process, month end financial reporting and providing commercial and strategic support to the publishing division.


  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting of the Division's financial performance
  • Ensure that the publishing schedule is accurately reflected in the budget and forecast
  • Work with other areas of the business (e.g. editorial, sales, production and marketing) to gain relevant information to help compile budget and forecast
  • Input/update budget/forecast in Hyperion Planning Finance system
  • Assist in month end analysis of the division's performance against forecast and budget
  • Work with Group Finance to calculate the monthly Plant costs charged to the P&L
  • Assist in preparation of reports for monthly divisional executive meetings, including the month end commercial pack
  • Assist the commercial manager to provide the division with financial information to assist commercial decisions
  • Sales reporting to identify trends, analyse performance and inform future decision making
  • Prepare and report on previous publications profitability to assist decisions on future acquisitions

Key Skills/Experience

  • Strong academic background
  • Desire to work in a commercial finance team / previous financial experience
  • Previous experience in a professional environment
  • Numerate and strong on detail
  • Mature and organised approach, self-starter, able to take the initiative
  • Excellent administrator
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Confident working with both finance and non-finance staff
  • A passion for books
