HQ is the newest division of HarperCollins, one of the UK's most prolific, diverse and innovative multi-platform publishers and are currently looking for a Marketing Director to join their team. Directing and managing the Marketing team for the HQ division of HarperCollins, the Marketing Director will be responsible for originating strategy across the consumer and retail landscape; activating innovative campaigns and delivering successful and measurable results across a range of titles, imprints and genres. They are responsible for the communication of all campaigns unifying activity across sales, marketing and PR departments for individual titles, author growth in both fiction and non-fiction.


  • Identify, plan and deliver focused marketing campaigns that fulfil the objectives set out for each book and author
  • Adhere to the critical path in delivering marketing requirements in timely way through the publishing process
  • Lead the strategic direction of marketing's contribution to the direction of the imprint and business decision-making process
  • With the Associate Publisher, manage & continuously improve the working relationships between Publicity, Sales, Marketing & Editorial to ensure that these areas are working together as a team & deal with any challenges as they occur
  • Ensure that appropriate Marketing materials and communications are produced on time & in accordance with business needs
  • Develop and maintain contacts with external agencies and freelancers to ensure the use of effective marketing resource
  • Proactively identify opportunities for growth and provide input into the acquisition and publishing process to deliver improved potential
  • Empower the Marketing team with creative vision to improve the use of their creative skills and help develop an innovative approach to challenging marketing issues
  • Manage the HQ Marketing team
  • Work with the Insight team on research projects for author or genre to inform marketing and publishing decision-making
  • Work closely with the Sales Director and Head of PR
  • Provide creative input into jackets and be part of the design and copy approval process to ensure that Marketing needs are met and the best jackets are delivered
  • Demonstrate clear consumer awareness for titles, authors, genres to inform marketing and publishing decision-making
  • With the Associate Publisher and Commercial team, be responsible for the efficient allocation of the marketing budget within the division and overall control of Consumer Marketing costs
  • With the Associate Publisher and Commercial Director allocate annual budgets across the titles to support title sales goals. Review and reforecast on quarterly basis and re-allocate financial resources as needed

We're based in the News Building which we share with our News UK and Dow Jones colleagues in the newly-established London Bridge Quarter, opposite the famous Borough Market. Our new open-plan office has amazing views across London, and includes a variety of break-out areas to aid inspiration and a collaborative approach, a multi-media suite, and a fabulous canteen floor and book shop.
